Brand Identity

The Dawn of a new Era
- Music videos were born when they were first broadcast on MTV. This gave artists a good chance to show their identity, at one point in time music videos were so powerful they could make or break an arists career. This also gave the public a good sight at what an artist is really like and how they want to be seen.

-In the past 10 years, a new platform has taken over and MTV is not as popular as it used to be. Instead of airing music videos and the charts constantly, it now only shows the top 40. Shows such as teen mom and Keeping up with the Kardashians. Music videos are now only found on youtube/twitter and facebook. These online platforms are the only way for artists to show themselves. Since the music videos are in decline, they have become more and more controversial throughout the years. Lady GaGa is a perfect example of this, as many of her videos views don't understand the true meaning of.

Here is an example of one of her songs, 'Bad Romance'. many viewers, are unaware of the real message the video gives and think that it is just in her nature to make a weird video. However, this video is actually about the sex trade, it shows Lady GaGa being kept hostage and made to dance for men who are bidding on her. The audience do not notice this as it is not put out in an obvious way.

Brand identity
Once an artist is established, they can begin to brand themselves. An example of branding would be Jessie J. In her branding she uses black, an iconic colour of her hair, and her nails to show her strength as an arist. There is always an element of gold or other metallic colour in the posters. This gives a feeling of richness. The font used is also always the same. This gives a sense of consistency in her branding.
