Elton John lip Syncing Exercise
Above is the exercise that we did showing how to lip sync. This turned out to be one of the best examples we have created as a group.
What kinds of takes did we use?
My editing during this example came out much better than planned. This was the first time we got to use the new software, Adobe Premiere Pro. As we didnt know what we would experience during this process, we decided to make sure we had lots of different shot types. We used a specific part of the song 'Oh Honey, when you knock on my door' by actually re-acting the scene of Freddie and me at the door. We also put Alanta and Carl on the harmony line and gave them their own pan shot using the dolly. We made this video while thinking about what shots we had seen in our previous msuic video reserach,
Editing
To edit this sequence i used a new editing software, Adobe Premire Pro. I used as many different editing methods i had could remember from the previous year. I started the video with a fade in as the music doesnt have a real beat that it starts on, this gave it a nice flow to begin with. I jumped through 3 different shots that were fun to begin the video on a good note.
I cut the clips to around 10 seconds each or less. This is because i wanted them to be short so they werent boring the audience but long enough to see the other skills i used in this project, such as lip syncing and shot types. The longest clip was of the main part, 'Oh Honey when you knock on my door' as it had a theatrical element to it. This clip lasted around 13 seconds, quite a long time for one shot.
Mistakes and what I heave learnt
During this editing process i made many mistakes. I had to get used to the editing area and find out where everything is. On a few occasions i accidently deleted clips or cut ones that i didnt want to just because i didnt yet know where everything was. One mistake that we made was holding the paper with the lyrics. In some shots that we really liked we was holding the lyrics in our hands. We used these shots neither the less as they worked well in the video, but did show some continuity issues when it came to watching the video back over.
I have learnt a great deal from this project. Mostly about how to used the new software in time to edit my real music video. I have also learnt from my mistakes about continuity. Ive also learnt some positives from this process, Things like what shots worked well, the dolly is something i would want to use in my real music video as it gives a flow to the video making it not so heard edge with the straight cuts.
