Blog 11 Case Study 2- Emil Nava

Emil Nava is a new up and coming director. He began his life as a runner for film production companies and soon worked for Blink Productions. He now freelances of OB Management. The very first gig that Emil got was creating the cover of Our House for Kid British.

The budget for this £20,000 in Manchester. He did'nt cast anyone in particular for this just the local people. Over the course of 3 days the video had been made and within 10 it was out to the public. The demonstrates the very tight timescales involved in the industry.

Since then he has continuted to create music videos at a fast pace as he is known for making 24 music videos in one year alone! When he first began shooting videos for independent labels the budgets were extrememly low, as low as £5,000 to the most being £160,000 (For Jessie J)

Here are some of the videos he created;

A Personal Favorite - Ed Sheeran' s 'Lego House' was one of the first ones he directed and was a huge hit. Using an actor that looked like the artist was a good way of adding the aritst without making him be in the limelight all the time. He was also famous for making the song that got Ed Sheeran known called 'You Need Me. In this Emil used lots of extreme close ups, as his advice to others is not to leave a whole/ large proportion of the video in mid shot as it doesn't give it any depth .

Another one of his videos that hit the charts was Jessie J's 'Price Tag'. He created this video around Jessie's particularly bubbly and enthusiastic personality and the unique style that she has. The whole video screams 'jessie' as it has a big teddy bear and her own clothes and style. The video doesn't look like she's forcing anything but simply acting like herself. The created a good image for jessie as a fun 'older sister' character which is desired in the current media. Emil's skills in this show how commited he is to working with the artist and creating something great.
